A Manager's Guide to Directing Alkai

Welcome to Alkai! Think of Alkai as a new marketing assistant for your business. Like any new hire, it wants to do its best for you, but it works best with clear directions and occasional oversight.

Our most successful users are those who treat Alkai as a junior team member. This guide will walk you through managing Alkai successfully - including how best to give guidance. Most importantly, because Alkai is AI and can make mistakes, it will show you how to step in and take direct control when you need a specific result that’s easier to do yourself than to explain. Don’t get stuck in a frustrating loop - you always have the final say.

Let's get started.

Part 1: Setting the Foundation

To get the most out of Alkai - set up your brand and social media accounts. These one-time steps ensure Alkai understands your brand and has the access it needs.

  1. Set up your Brand: To ensure all content feels like yours, your first step is to set up your Brand Kit. By defining your logo, colors, and fonts, you instruct Alkai to use core visual identity of your business, ensuring every post is recognizable and on-brand. Learn more.

  1. Connect Your Social Media Accounts: Give Alkai the keys to post on your behalf by connecting your social accounts. This allows Alkai to share and schedule approved content directly to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Read our step by step guide.

Part 2: The Workflow: Review and Refine

Every week, Alkai will generate up to 8 posts. Your core workflow within Alkai will involve reviewing these posts and telling Alkai to share them.

  1. Review the Weekly Posting Plan: In your Posting Plan, you can see all the content Alkai has prepared for the week. This is your chance to review the drafts, check the schedule, and ensure the plan aligns with your goals. Your weekly plan.

  1. Edit a Post Directly, including adding Music: This is your most powerful tool. If a draft isn't quite right - whether it's the colors, fonts, text, design, or the media - the Post Editor gives you full control. Use it to bypass AI friction and make precise changes when an instruction isn't landing. Also add music while editing a post. How to edit a post.

  1. Approve and Share Your Content: With your posts perfected and ready to go, you can share them instantly or schedule them for the optimal time. You are in full control of when your content goes live to your audience. Share and schedule your content.

Part 3: Taking Direct Control (Your Fail-Safe Toolkit)

Alkai is always improving, but sometimes it may misunderstand an instruction or struggle with a specific creative request. If you find yourself trying to re-explain a change, or Alkai is telling you it did something when it clearly didn’t, it's often faster to step in and do it yourself. These tools are your shortcuts.

  1. Edit a Post Directly: Don't forget about this option, as it's hard to underestimate its importance. If you feel a created draft is not exactly what you had in mind, review it in the Post Editor to change the outcome in your favor with a few hands-on tweaks. You can easily change colors, fonts, photos and media, text, music, and the overall design. Learn more.
  2. Manage Your Media Library: Don't like the image Alkai chose? You can remove this media from your library so that Alkai won’t use it again. Want Alkai to use something different? Upload your own photos and videos to the Media Library, or use Alkai's AI generator to create a new image from scratch. You have control over the visuals in every post. Using your Media Library.
  3. Review and update your Plan Settings: See the controls we offer regarding your plan. Only want Alkai to plan on certain days? Don’t want specific post styles or formats? You can configure it all in the Plan Settings. Make sure the posts planned by Alkai start off as the type and style you want, and on the days you need. Manage your plan.

Part 4: Ongoing feedback and direction

Want Alkai to remember something every time it makes a post? Provide your guidance in the Plan Brief.

  1. Ensure Alkai has the right guidance: Use the General Instructions in the Plan Brief to instruct Alkai on your goals and general posting directions like what to include in AI images. Alkai has its own planning process, so giving a specific plan here isn’t helpful: it is better to share intent instead of direct methods. You can also chat with Alkai about the wanted direction, and it should update its instructions and give you a link to verify. If it didn’t, you can tell it directly to ‘update posting instructions’. Guiding Alkai.
  2. Tell Alkai what’s happening in your business for the next week’s plan: Have an upcoming sale or event happening in the next week? Give Alkai details in the Weekly planning instructions and it will make posts about this topic in the coming week. Make sure you update this before Saturday when Alkai begins the planning process. Update Alkai on your business happenings.
